Don’t sit for too long in 2014. In fact, do what the HealthyFeetStore.com staff is doing – stand at work and be more active in the office.
My standing quest started more than three years ago after I noticed numbness in my lower limbs and the lack of energy I felt throughout the day, plus, I was overweight and out of shape. I knew that I needed to make a change in my life, which included my diet, exercise routine, and the time I spent at work since I was spending 8+ hours a day sitting in an office environment. After doing extensive research about the negative effects a sedentary lifestyle could cause, primarily because of sitting, I decided to make a change for the better by getting rid of my office chair and setting up a standing workstation.
It worked! I lost over 70 pounds since I made the decision to change my lifestyle, which included standing at work. I truly believe that by eating healthy, exercising, and sitting less, you can achieve positive health goals. I’m also proud to say that because of my standing workstation, my fellow co-workers have also made the change and are now standing at work and feeling the positive effects.

I have been using my standing work station for about 6 months and the first and most significant change is that I no longer have lower back pain. The second change is that because I am moving more, I rarely feel cold during the day. Overall I am very happy with a standing workstation and will never go back to a regular sitting work station.

I read some articles on standing work stations before I tried it. No problems. I stand on a well-cushioned industrial mat and try to wear compression socks. I don’t have the best posture so standing has made me more conscious and forces me to stand straighter. With the screen raised higher I got a chair that is also higher. It’s great for an occasional break but not that comfortable so I want to sit in it for long periods of time like a regular, cushioned office chair.

I decided to try standing because my back was constantly hurting after sitting in the office 8 hours a day. The first week of working at my standing workstation my legs got tired easily and it was a bit of an adjustment. But now I feel great, and the best part is my back no longer hurts at the end of each work-day!

Before I had my standing desk, I had been experiencing lower back pain from spending so much time sitting. Almost the first day that I had the standing desk, I stopped experiencing it and haven’t ever since.

I really do enjoy standing (when I do actually stand)! I’ve noticed that I don’t have leg pain anymore, which I think was caused from sitting for long periods of time. When I wear my Brooks athletic shoes and my Fox River graduated compression socks, I can stand all day, with no complaints. Overall, my standing workstation experience has been AWESOME thus far!

I highly recommend standing at work more often than sitting. Remember, you can always try it and get a taller chair for occasional breaks. Make sure you do some research and consult with a healthcare professional to see if it’s the right thing for you. You can start by reading The Art of Standing, by Jenna Goldberg.
