U.N. to Celebrate World Diabetes Day on November 14th
On November 14th the celebration of diabetes researchers and diabetes survivors goes beyond national borders as we celebrate the first United Nations-observed World Diabetes Day.
World Diabetes Day is about spreading awareness and accurate information about diabetes. For those who have been diagnosed the day will hopefully serve as a reminder that you are not alone in this battle and that through conscientious self-care and help from a trained medical professional you can still lead a full and healthy life.
For those who have not been diagnosed with diabetes if you haven’t had your blood sugar levels tested, World Diabetes Day is a good day to call your doctor and schedule a diabetes screening. Diabetes can be controlled in its early stages, but when left undetected it may cause severe health complications such as nerve damage, circulation impairment, and other dysfunctions.
Perhaps the most important message behind World Diabetes day is the reminder that every nation is affected by diabetes and that, therefore, we are all united in the journey towards finding a cure for this potentially deadly disease.
To commemorate the occasion hundreds of landmarks in major cities around the world will be lit up in bright, diabetes awareness blue.
